WELCOME
Hello,
Welcome to my Blog! Yes, I have been in the fight of my life against Leukemia, insomnia, depression, side effects of medications, molting skin, pooping my pants and this list goes on.... however, I still love my life, and that's what this blog is about Real Life. I hope to meet others who trails have brought them closer to the Lord and molded them for the next step in God's will. In January 2011 , my family, physician, and Be the Match was featured on a Fox 5 news story about bone marrow donors and transplants. In March, I was interviewed on Atlanta and Company along with Be the Match. I was chosen to sing the national anthem at the Be the Match Run last year and will also be doing it this year, along with some other songs. My team, no thanks to me, raised over $4,000 and raised more than any other team! Please join my team this year or consider donating here at the Run those Stem cells out ! Team I was also chosen for a patient advocacy panel for the international council meeting at Be the Match in MN in November. How exciting!! I ended up not being able to attend due to the relapse. I had hoped I could help raise awareness about how easy it is to sign up to be a donor and how many people need your help! Please go to bethematch.org and sign up! I was able to have my bone marrow (same as stem cell) transplant at the end of March thanks to a 22 year old donor oversees that I hope to meet her one day. As I came up on my 6th month mark and continued to add more normal activities to our lives, I relapsed, meaning that the that the cancer had mutated and the leukemia came back. I spent 2 more weeks at Emory and some other nights here and there and now I'm on a drug from the FDA. I have a compassion waiver so I am able to get it. I have to take it day by day sometimes hour by hour. Time keeps moving and my little girl is growing up. I'm lucky that I'm getting to see it. I continue to praise God for his wonderful blessings he has shown us including my wonderful husband Jonathan, baby girl Evalyn Rose, supportive family and friend, great medical care, new readers, and the chance to make a big difference, even if that means being a Lab Rat.
God Bless You!
Please read, comment, enjoy, learn, grow, LOVE LIFE.
Most Recently I have started a booth at a local consignment store with handmade jewelry from friends, crafts, and my own art from recycled materials. It is called DAY by DAY. God was very clear with me starting this. Please look over to the right of blog and click on Day by Day to see some pictures. I'm just getting started but I am taking orders from people that I know. You will be able to personalize items, etc. I just haven't decided how I will be selling them via internet yet. But for now, the jewelry is at A Weekend A'fair in Athens, GA and will hopefully be at some stores downtown soon.

Medical Update 5/17- Really, 5 for 5?
As I said in the last post, I'd rather be writing about the hostel and the beach, and I will when I'm hooked up for the next two days. The diarrhea continues and I'm unable to keep with my fluids or electrolytes. They are trying to keep me from being admitted of course. Mon- fluids in Athens, Tues- potassium and magnesium in Athens, Wed- labs and blood work at Emory, this Thursday and Friday and possibly Mon and Tues, fluids and whatever else I need in Athens. Unbelievable that I will be at the doctors office 5 days this week. Food is not my friend. I'm so hungry but get get sick every time I eat something, having painful cramps, and was now told I have to have another colon scope last week to make sure, again, that it is the GVHD and not the study med. So of course I had a bunch of med changes and I'm off the oral chemo for a bit. Boy, this liquid potassium tastes worse than any medication I have ever had, even mixed with juice. Hopefully, I won't need that for long. It's just hard getting sitters, rides, food and laundry done, and all the other things I'm suppose to do. I haven't been able to go to any exercise classes this week. Have not followed up on PT, eye doc, dentist, bone density, and probably a few other things.....
I have had some "divine appointments" and have gotten to meet some new people and run into some old friends. I won't put their names yet until they decide if they want to contact me. We discussed things that a lot of people do not know like coconut water helps with cramps, aloe juice helps with your gut, flax seed helps with hot flashes, you can ask for gel cap potassium pills instead of the huge white ones, there is a washer on the 7th floor, where the good food is outside, free museum passes, Andres's Essential Soaps here in Athens, and so on. One guy, super nice, seems like he misses his home college town and would like to come to Athens sometimes. He is getting chemo and has leukemia. I meet another girl, through mutually admiring each others earrings, and then she gave me a pair that she made! She is super nice and I hope that she gets in touch with me. She is fighting breast cancer. I saw my friend Amanda today and she is getting her BMT on June 9th. I also spread word about the BE the Match run and hopefully got at least three more people to sign up for the run/ walk.
Somehow made it to small group tonight, the grace of God, and it was good to be around friends and to pray for them and have prayer over us.
Please pray for my strength, for God to give me enough to take care of myself and my little girl. Pray for us as we deal with Jonathan getting laid off and trying to find another job. Please let us know how we can pray for you!
Love you,
Heather
